Hong Kong renowned ceramic artist Leo Wong debuts Venice craft Biennale 

Leo Wong is the sole artist selected to represent Hong Kong SAR in Homo Faber. He will feature a stunning floral ceramic art installation to celebrate the vitality of natural world. The event will feature immersive exhibitions showcasing the work of over 400 master artisans from more than 50 countries around the world.

Through the exquisite, translucent and delicate porcelain flowers, the artwork expresses the philosophies and aesthetics of traditional oriental crafts, while telling a story of the poetic intertwining of botany, art, and history. Ceramics, an art form that has symbolized the character and beauty of the Far East for thousands of years, was first introduced to Europe by the Venetian explorer Marco Polo 700 years ago. Leo Wong is proud to pay tribute to the longstanding affinity and heritage between Venice and the Far East through this unique opportunity.

The featuring artwork - Peonies and Butterfly

Artwork titled “Peonies and Butterfly”, is a ceramic sculpture consisting of 5 porcelain peonies and wood-like ceramic stoneware pedestal. The intense pink peony assemblage preserves the momentary radiance of the flower and evoke senses of delicacy, temptations and inner desires that captivating. The artwork is inspired from Japanese woodblock print master Hokusai’s painting “Peonies and Butterfly” which possesses unique aesthetic concepts and philosophical connotations.

Wong’s artwork will be exhibited in the gallery themed “Love and Courtship” , which explores the essential role craftsmanship that conveys the depth of our feelings through meaningful objects handcrafted with passion and care. The space presents a garden of seduction, alive with flowers crafted from an array of materials by artisans across the globe, revealing the diverse creativity provoked by this universal symbol of love. 

 Homo Faber Biennial 2024 Edition

Homo Faber 2024 invites viewers to discover the craftsmanship behind the objects that accompany life’s most precious moments. Inspired by the ten themes which articulate The Journey of Life, the event will unveil hundreds of handcrafted objects made by talented artisans from all over the world, highlighting the diverse skills, techniques, and innovative approaches behind their creations.
